I received this quilt today and I am ecstatic about it. It is so beautiful and I truly appreciate the craftsmanship and work that went into it.  It was my aunt in-law Katie’s and I always admired it when I visited her house so you can imagine the excitement when I opened a mail box today and I saw the quilt.  I hope you guys can really see the design and the quilting technique used, as it is beautiful.  The quilt was purchased from Santa Fe and it was made entirely by hand by native American quilt masters. It is naturally dyed and I am pretty sure the dyes used are vegetable dyes.  The quilt is really beautiful mustard color. The design is achieved through using two layers of fabric. The top layer is then slashed in the particular design and each slashed portion is folded under and hand stitched in place.  Considering this is a king size quilt, you can only imagine the hours of work that went into stitching every single shape.  Finally, the quilt has been river stone-washed and that is how this dimension in color between the two layers of fabric has happened.  This washing technique really allows for the design to stand out. I really like the graphic pattern used as it feels quite modern and I love objects that mix traditional craft techniques with modern look. I might even do a clothing design based on this awesome quilt…We have to wait and see:)

  1. Pretty please make something inspired by this. I’ll sport it 🙂

  2. I have never known that the topic of quilts can be so exciting and inspirational…until your blog today 🙂 Thanks.

  3. Katie obviously admires you and your talent to give you this. It would be great if can you get something that’s anywhere close to duplicating that texture and color distribution.
